Course Overview

Explore the exciting potential of silk screen printing onto glass. Using traditional glass paints and enamels, you will build up layers of print to create stunning, one-off works of art.

We will provide you with pre-prepared screens featuring four of your own images (each up to A5 in size), plus access to a large selection of stock images on screens. Your designs will be printed onto float glass and fired in the kiln. You are welcome to bring your own coloured, untextured glass to print on.

We will explore multi-layered printing, double-sided printing, and various stencil-making techniques. The course includes demonstrations on using Photoshop to prepare images, as well as advice on how to continue screen printing as part of your creative practice.

No previous glass or print experience is required. The aim is to build your confidence and knowledge to a level where you can easily continue the practice after the course.

Programme

Day One
The morning begins with a talk explaining how the screens were made and demonstrating Photoshop techniques to ensure a solid understanding of the process. We will review many samples of work and discuss both advanced and simpler techniques.

In the afternoon, we will design your print collages and prepare glass for printing. We will then perform double-sided printing with multiple layers of paints and transparent enamels.

Day Two
The second day is dedicated to hands-on printing. I will demonstrate printing with simple hand-made stencils as well as more complex high resolution photographic images made using photosensitive stencils. The focus is on equipping you with the knowledge and confidence to continue printing independently after the two days. I will provide all necessary links and support contacts to help you continue your practice.
