5.7m x 1m Kiln fired blue enamel on glass.

Our high streets are constantly changing. The Corner Shop, however, stood on the Bath Road relatively unchanged for 65 years. This installation aims to capture its essence, the memories of how it looked and felt, and what it meant to the people who shopped there. The exhibit pays homage to the enduring impact of The Corner Shop amidst the ever-changing urban landscape.

The presence of people and places that last can deeply affect us. As our lives are constantly evolving, the things that remain consistent grow increasingly special and important - we cherish constants in a world of unyielding flux.

Made from photos taken by the artist over several years, each glass tile is individually silk-screen printed by hand using traditional stained glass transparent enamel. The tiles were then fired at 700°C to permanently fix the image onto the glass.
